8th Grade Completes Island Activity
September 13, 2019
The 8th grade students recently completed their first island activity. Once a month the 8th grade science students will participate in an island project. The island projects involve problem solving, cooperative teamwork, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). Each island starts with a task and a blueprint. The students are split into competing islands and try to solve the problem before the other groups. This island activity involved a tragic disease outbreak. One "doctor" had to communicate with a student acting as a "telephone" transferring the procedures on how to build an antivirus model to save the island from certain doom. One of the four islands survived. Sadly, the other three islands succumbed to the terrible disease. Our next island involves an excavation project!
